my new project

(i didn't take this picture, i don't know who did.)

so, hey, it's been a while. sorry. it's been interterm (a month between fall and spring semester where we take an optional class), and therefore i haven't been doing much artwork.

i keep meaning to post my final project from last semester up here but i haven't gotten to it yet. i'll do it, i promise.

i mainly am posting tonight to tell you, loyal blog readers, about my new project. it's kind of a project i assigned myself, not something for a class.

for my birthday last weekend (20! old.), my parents gave me a fujifilm instax mini. it's essentially a polaroid camera, but the pictures are about the size of credit cards.
anyways, i am going to take individual pictures of all of the people i love over the next 7 months, after which i will be packing up and going to london for a semester. i'll hang up all of the pictures of all of these people i will miss up on my wall in my dorm, and then when i come home i will have a HUGE set of pictures of friends in america AND in england!

i'm excited. so if you catch me trying to get a picture of you, let me!

PHEW.

it's almost the end of the semester, and let me tell you, it's been a good one. here's some of what i've been up to:

we were assigned a project where we had to design a currency for an ancient nation. i chose the etruscans and designed two bills.

here's a poster design i did for my history of graphic design class. the assignment was to create a fake exhibit advertisement in the style of another artist. i chose andy warhol. once again, the colors are off, so i apologize for that.

i have two last projects i want to share but i am not 100 percent sure i wont change something about them this week, so i'll wait until they are all done and turned in to post them. :)

mercedes-benz classic center

so we took a field trip to the mercedes-benz classic center in irvine a couple of months ago. the classic center is one of two in the world and features millions of dollars of cars, from these buggy-looking things to cars from the 1980's. i'm no car enthusiast but even i fell in love with the classic detail and fun colors that these beautiful cars came in!
we were each asked to design a poster for the irvine location of the classic center. it had to be art deco-ish and feature one of the center's cars. i chose the mercedes-benz 300SL roadster.
blogspot does a really good job of messing up colors, so i'll have to get a real website soon. but in the meantime, here's an off-color version of my poster!

oops, i've been missing.

but for good reason!
although my life has been nonstop crazy for the last couple of months, i have been learning SO much and it's been so fun! here's some catch-up (in no particular order of events)...

yesterday i went to MOCA Pacific Design Center and played with string. not really. but i did get to see this really amazing installation...21 miles of hand-dyed twine in this beautiful web of incredible! i literally could not stop staring. now i am procrastinating on the paper i am supposed to write on it.

and i made part of a typeface! the rule was that we could use only unit squares and/or circles. this is just the A...i actually made 12 letters.

in typography we were assigned an exercise where we were to use only a the letters of a particular word to convey its meaning. i love this kind of stuff, so homework that night was fun! (oh, and can you tell i love circles?)

i'll post more projects as i get my grades back for them. i just finished up a sculpture made of plaster, a vintage mercedes benz poster, and a logo for a cupcakery. next up: a currency for an ancient civilization and an andy warhol-inspired poster! my life is fun.

i'm back! with things to show!

school is starting off so well! i have completed two weeks of classes and i am IN LOVE with everything i'm assigned, my professors, and the passionate and creative people i am meeting every day. i am learning so much about the formal, creative, and historical elements of graphic design and i know that i am truly where i am supposed to be. i literally smile talking about fonts, lines, and the adobe programs!

here's a little baby project we did for my intro to graphic design class. we were told to make a self-portrait out of type symbols, like parentheses, commas, and letters. we are throwing them onto labels with our name and using the labels has our insignia on the back of our work!

so, here is my face, in type!
i'm glad to be back in the swing of things. keep checking back for updates. i'll give you a hint...i'm learning calligraphy. :)

chapman invisible children ads

the chapman invisible children club is handing out free shirts at an event they are having, so some chapman students modeled them for me!

(i am so excited that my african kid design is being used as well!)
